The Grainary Newsletter

07/07/2011

Summer is well and truly under way at the Grainary and visitors have been flocking to both the tea rooms and accommodation to enjoy the beautiful weather.

Wildflowers have begun to bloom in the corn fields next to the hard-surface walk and you can hear the drilling of night jars ringing through the forestry.

The royal fern is flourishing on our wetland wood walk and we even have a resident woodpecker in our fold yard, as well as a family of deer living in our top fields.

Lambing season is now over and the lambs are growing from shy, wobbly-legged babies into very cheeky teenagers! Salt one of our pet lambs has even been known to enjoy a mid afternoon stroll down to the pond with Farmer John.
Kirsty our pet Highland cow gave birth to her first calf at the beginning of June which gives us four very lively calves who love nothing more to chase each other around the front paddock and entertain our guests.

We have plenty of new additions in the 'pet area' including rabbits, calves and chicks!
Sadly Jess and Kim our collie dogs both passed away this year but we have a new addition to our pack – a collie puppy we've named Bessie. She is now almost 4 months old and very loveable - she certainly knows it too! She has become firm friends with both Blue and Lollie and the three of them can often be found escorting guests on a guided tour of the farm or taking people on one of the various walks we have.

Farmer John and his sons are continuing to improve our children's play area and the games room has been spruced up with a farmyard mural and new play equiptment.

Everyone is now getting ready for the start of harvest in August when it will be all hands on deck!
Elton John visited Scarborough and played a concert to a full house at the open air theatre on North Bay. – For other places to visit and places of interest in the area please visit our links page.

We hope everyone has been enjoying the lovely weather we've had of late and we have our fingers crossed for plenty more sunny days.

As you can see our website has been updated so please let us know what you think! You can join our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter.
We look forward to seeing you all soon – happy summer!
Many Thanks,
John and Lynda Simpson

Grainary Blog News

Spring is here, the daffodils are blossoming and the Farm and Accommodation have been very busy.

The lambing season is slowly coming to an end. We now have a number of new born lambs on the farm as well as rabbits, hens, two "Curly Coat" pigs and a goat and her kid. Three of our highland cows have also just given birth to three baby calves, which can be found grazing in our front field, next to the pond.

All of our new additions have been enjoying basking in the spring sun. We hope this lovely weather continues into the coming months.

The Country Tea room's has seen a large number of visitors over the bank holidays. We'd like to thank everyone who visited and hope we will see you again soon.

We are now proud to announce that we have a brand new online booking form on the front page of our website, brought to you by booking.com.

Due to a very busy lambing season, farmer John and his sons have been unable to begin re-designing the Tea Rooms Play Area. We are looking to have this completed before we begin the harvest in June.

We hope everyone had a very happy Easter and we look forward to seeing you soon

Many Thanks John and Lynda Simpson
